Water staff rally round to help children's cancer charity
BIG-HEARTED staff at Sembcorp Bournemouth Water (SBW) have rallied round to help raise money for CLIC Sargent.
They donated the proceeds of their annual lunchtime barbecue to the UK’s leading cancer charity for children and young people after an appeal by Scott Glover, a Production Controller with SBW.
The father of two is hoping to raise at least £1,600 for CLIC Sargent with a number of fundraising activities including taking part in next year's Virgin London Marathon.
He was prompted to act after seeing how the charity came to the aid of his nephew, Ryan Glover, when he was diagnosed with a malignant brain tumour at the age of two.
Scott, who lives in Canford Heath, Poole, said: "The months that followed were hell. As his uncle I can only tell the story but I remember vividly how distressing it was to see Ryan going through chemotherapy and then daily radiotherapy and general anaesthetics.
"I can't even start to comprehend how hard this time was for my brother Dean, his wife Alex and, of course, little Ryan.
"During this time the support and help offered by CLIC Sargent was invaluable to them. In my mind when I think of CLIC Sargent, I always think of it as 'Ryan's charity' because I know how much their support meant to Dean and Alex and how it helped them through their most difficult times," added Scott.
Now eight years old, Ryan, who lives in Bournemouth, is well and his MRI scans show no trace of cancer. However Scott said he wanted to do everything possible to help raise money for CLIC Sargent.
Ryan was treated as guest at honour at SBW's lunchtime barbecue which was held at the company's Alderney head office. A total of £135 was donated by SBW staff bringing the amount raised so far by Scott for CLIC Sargent to £440.
